The Duyfken can be made in a walnut version or in an oak version. The pictures show the model in an oak colour. In 1605, on the initiative of the VOC, Jan Willemsz Verschoor set up an expedition ‘to discover the large country of Nova Guinea and other East- and Southlands’. For this he equipped the small yacht Duyfken (Little Dove). In 1606 she became the first Dutch ship to partially map the Australian North Coast.
The model is in scale 1:50 and consists of laser-cut frames, walnut or oak planks and various other laser-cut parts. The building instructions are based on photos, and the rigging is based on photos and drawings. The model includes a sail kit (self-build, stitching required). The deck contains four visible cannons. Beside the four open gun ports, the hull also contains four closed gun ports. It is possible to order four additional cannons to cover all eight gun ports.
