New models

Slowly but surely the new Kolderstok model is beginning to get its shape: the 17th century Fluit. The elongated hull with its typical bulging back was ideally suited for carrying a lot of cargo, and long loads such as wood (for new ships) could easily be stowed in the hold.  The narrow decks made the walking distances on deck shorter and the flute ship could be sailed with a relatively small crew.  In short: economy at its best! The fluit could be equipped for many purposes, and many of these ships were built on stock and operated by the shipbuilder himself until a buyer came forward. The ship was then often adapted to the requirements and wishes of this buyer. The Kolderstok model will be made as a "houthaler" (wood carrier), as it sailed to the Scandinavian countries. A much seen type of ship on the Baltic Sea. The model will be built to a scale of 1 to 72 and will measure approx. 60 - 65 cm in length and 60 cm in height when built. The difficulty level will be 3 - 4 stars on a scale of 4, especially due to the convex hull shape at the rear. The construction method of this model is different from the other models (with the exception of the Speel-Jaght). Oak frames are placed on an MDF base, on which the pre-cut (lime) planks are placed from the keel up to the bulwark. This method is very similar to the "shell-first" method used in the 17th century at the Amsterdam and Hoorn shipyards. The model can then be stained with a suitable stain to achieve the desired colour.
