New models in development!

Observant visitors will have noticed that two new models in the Kolderstok programme are currently in development:

  • - D'Halve Maen in scale 1:50
  • - Hollands Wijdschip in scale 1:72

D'Halve Maen (Half Moon) is based on a description and set of old drawings by Mr F. Baay, (drawings and book from 1942 - 1948) and a model which was made in the late 1930s by G.C.E. Crone.

The Wijdschip (Wide Ship) has as its original source the book by Nicolaas Witsen. Ab Hoving and René Hendrickx took a description from it and elaborated it to make this ship as a paper version. Matthias Noback obtained approval from Hoving to also work out this model in wood.

D'Halve Maen is built in the familiar way of a keel with frames and decks, then planking the hull with straight battens, while the Wijdschip is developed in the way as the Speel-jaght and the Fluytschip by Kolderstok. This means pre-shaped laser-cut hull planks.

There is a construction report of both models on the NVM model building forum: https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/dhalve-maen-kolderstok.290386/ and https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/ontwerpverslag-modelbouwkit-wijdschip-smalschip.290231/ In addition, a construction report of the Wijdschip has also been started, mainly to see to what extent the pre-cut hull planks of this ship are appropriate. The builder in this case is Hans Groenenberg: https://www.modelbouwforum.nl/threads/wijdtschip-smalschip-hans-groenenberg.290892/

For the avoidance of doubt - certainly with regard to the Wijdschip, the kits for these ships are not yet available. Further detailing and preparation for production will certainly take several more months, but you can of course pre-order the models by sending an e-mail to kolderstok@gmail.com.
