Ochre is an earth-colour pigment and is formed from hydrated iron oxide, silicon and clay. Shades vary from yellow to brown. The word ochre comes from the Greek Ochros, which means yellowish. By heating the pigment (burning), a darker colour is achieved – burnt ochre.

All Kolderstok paints are water-based acrylic paints. The colours are made with modern, environmentally friendly pigments. The products mentioned in the above description are not present in our paints.

The Kolderstok colour Oker is yellow veering towards orange. Yellow ochre was often used as an alternative to gilding ornaments.

Please note: applying several layers thinned with water gives a better result than one layer of undiluted paint.
