Green earth, also known as terre verte, is a green pigment that is created by weathering minerals such as augite or hornblende. The colour-giving substance is a silicate of aluminium, magnesium and iron which varies in composition. The colour of the pigment can vary between light and dark, depending on this composition. A green colour is also achieved by the application of copper compounds such as green copper acetate. See the Verdigris information for this.
All Kolderstok paints are water-based acrylic paints. The colours are made with modern, environmentally friendly pigments. The products mentioned in the above description are not present in our paints.
The Kolderstok colour Terre Verte is a dark green, veering towards black. Green was used for the higher parts of the hull of small yachts and for separate pieces.
Please note: applying several layers thinned with water gives a better result than one layer of undiluted paint.
