The small yacht Duyfken has been available in oak since the beginning of 2021. Ian Nolan from Sydney, Australia has recently completed his model in oak.
About the wood he states: "This is my forth model to build, and the first one to be made in oak. Kolderstok offers the model in oak or in walnut. I chose oak over walnut to plank the hull because it was the most popular material used in the 17th century. After soaking the oak in water, I found it easy to shape and because of its thickness it allowed for some thorough sanding. But Oak has also tighter fibers and I learnt to prepare it more carefully to get the planking properly done"
The end result is a very nice and neatly finished model, in a very distinguished colour and finish.
