The latest ship in the Kolderstok range: D'Halve Maen (The Half Moon)

There is still some minor finishing work to be done to the model, but the latest ship in the Kolderstok series is basically ready.

We now move on to all the additional things that go with making a building kit, such as the design of the box, the building instructions and drawings, and the necessary preparations in terms of the contents of the kit.

D'Halve Maen was the ship on which Henry Hudson, an Englishman in the service of the VOC (Dutch East India Company), crossed the ocean, then sailed up a great river in 1609, passing a green and fertile island. This island was called ‘Mannahatta’ by the locals, which means ‘small island’ in the Delaware language.

The original aim of the voyage - to find a northern passage - was not achieved, but the wide part of the river turned out to be extremely suitable for establishing a Dutch settlement, which was named ‘New Amsterdam’. The river mouth itself was named after Hudson, and the settlement grew into a large metropolis.

The model of the Halve Maen is in 1 in 50 scale and will be available in oak or walnut, with basic blocks or authentic blocks for the rigging. The model shown here is in oak, authentic blocks, and finished with shellac.

The price of the model will be around €260. The difficulty level is 2 on a scale of 4. The package comes complete with pre-printed sails yet to be finished.

As soon as the package is fully ready for delivery, the possibility to order will become available on the website. However, you can pre-register by sending a message to kolderstok@gmail.com so that we can notify you immediately when D'Halve Maen is available.
